Quite often, we find ourselves focusing on what we can do in our classrooms while using our Chromebooks. I’ve even heard once or twice technology in terms of “Classroom” and “Mobile” technology. This, of course, brings up the question, “Why not think of classroom technology AND mobile apps in the same sentence?” Today, lets take a look at 8 great apps that should be found in your mobile classroom in 2017.

“In my experiences as an EdTech leader, I find that contemporary educators are passionate about using technology to extend and deepen learning. Most recognize the changing landscape of “the real world” and the modern pedagogies needed to prepare students for that world. However, more often than not, they find challenges in applying these new concepts with specific tools. With Allan Carrington’s Padagogy Wheel Model, teachers have an at-hand reference that ties apps to specific learning outcomes directly connected to modern pedagogies and theories. They can easily sit with the wheel during lesson planning time to find tools that will best aid their students or use it during class time to extend or deepen learning towards a specific 21st century skill or content area. This connection of theory, practice, and application makes the Padagogy Wheel an invaluable resource that should be on the wall of every classroom”.

The best writing apps for iPad, like any concept of ‘best,’ is subjective and further based on need and circumstance. Are you a poet drafting when inspiration strikes? A student taking notes and writing essays? A novelist that usually uses a desktop, but needs their new iPad Pro to do work on the go? While the idea of writing more than a few hundred words on an iPad may seem crazy, using the iPad as a powerful portable writing tool allows you to take advantage of inspiration whenever and wherever it strikes. And with iPad screens now approaching 13″ and capable of supporting USB connections to enable standalone keyboards, it’s easier and more comfortable than ever to draft a masterpiece while away from your desk with the help of an app, an iPad, and a good idea.

Having students create videos about topics they are studying is one of my favorite activities. It involves research, communication, collaboration, organization and planning. If you have never witnessed children video taping each other, brace yourself. Often times it can be painful to endure because they frequently "mess up" or "forget what to say". But let's be real. WE adults do the same exact thing! To help ease the video taping frustrations for everyone, I have compiled a short list of FREE digital teleprompters your students or YOU could use when recording a video.
