This website offered a variety of tools to teach someone of the uses of Google. The videos were excellent and very informative, the resources in which you can go back and look over materials to help incorporate with the use of Google was useful and teachers would benefit if they take a little bit of time and look over some of the material. Having available resources on hot to teach digital skills to students will only further help your instruction be more student-centered as kids rely more on their own intuitions and act on their own initiatives when doing their assignments.

JamieSue Goodman is reinventing and giving life to the education system, but teaching students (and teachers) useful skills that they are actually interested in. As an employee of Google, she has brought her knowledge and resources to 360,000 students. By creating an education curriculum around learning how to use everything Google, from Google Docs to Google Analytics, which is called Applied Digital Skills. These lessons are built around topics that actually interest students today, such as athletic-themed lesson; programming an extreme-sports game or recording sports commentary.

Comparable free education materials are also provided by Apple, they offer “Everyone Can Code and “Everyone Can Create”. Since Applied Digital Skills is Google based, it is accessible on every type of device (Mac or PC). This is a huge selling point for schools to go with Chromebooks over competitors. Students who are learning these skills will have a huge advantage throughout their education and when they enter the workforce.

As humans’ priorities, motivations and intelligence evolve, education needs to evolve with us. Applied Digital Skills focuses on the 5 C’s for their students to enter the job market at their best; critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity and confidence. This type of education is technically available to everyone with internet access, but not all students in grades K-12 know about it or what to do with it. They should not need to create a curriculum for themselves when they are already attending school 6 hours per day, while feeling like they aren’t getting much out of it.

School libraries: A shift to digital

School libraries are making a noticeable shift toward digital collections in an effort to keep up with 21st century student collaboration.

Via Tom D'Amico (@TDOttawa)
Patricia Cruz's curator insight, September 16, 2023 5:07 PM
Education in every aspect is now offering technological or digital resources. We have seen the growth of resources since the pandemic. In order for children to get the maximum experience teachers and librarians must work together and create successful collaborative relationships. I was one of those students who was able to use an encyclopedia back in the day. Sometimes I have mixed thoughts on if I should actually have the physical books in my possession for the “What-ifs”. I am aware that you can do the same with digital books as you can with physical copies, but for some reason I like physical books better.
