Understanding the value of edtech in higher education

Understanding the value of edtech in higher education | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
Instead of seeing edtech as a silver bullet that simply drives learning outcomes, it is more useful to think of it as technology that mediates learning relations and processes: what relationships do we value as important for students and when is technology helpful and unhelpful in establishing those?

SAMR Model to Help You Make Informed EdTech Practices in Your Remote Teaching

SAMR Model to Help You Make Informed EdTech Practices in Your Remote Teaching | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

As more and more teachers and educators resort to the services of the web to help with the delivery of their teaching, the question of how we can best use technology to serve our pedagogical practices become even more persistent. In this regard, SAMR model as conceptualized by Dr Ruben Puentedura (2006)  is a good analytic framework you should definitely consider.

As we have stated elsewhere, 'SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition) is a four-level conceptual framework developed by to help teachers make effective use of technology in their instruction

Move to Online Learning: 12 Key Ideas – Dave’s Educational Blog | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

I got asked by a long time colleague if I was willing to do a post of all the things that I’ve learned in the last eight weeks about moving online. Not ’emergency teaching’ but actual lessons about people moving to teaching with the internet. I’ve worked with over 100 faculty at my own institution this past few months, taking them through a 1 week intensive course. I’ve also been in constant contact with folks from around the world both through my interviews on http://oliah.ca and in endless backchannels and side chats. Here’s what I got.

Steven Orjuela Garcia's curator insight, February 19, 2020 10:02 AM
I find this article quite interesting, as it serves as a reminder that as teachers we need to keep innovating the way we educate.   We can't keep using the same archaic methods from the last century, by using technology we can achive bigger advances in not only investigation but also education.
Daniela Ibarra Osorio's curator insight, March 15, 2020 4:37 PM
Education has had a fairly notable evolution with the use of technology, recognizing that there are differences that characterize each individual and that by recognizing these differences we understand inclusion and along with it goes the technology that supports us to change in order to generate significant changes and challenges in learning, content, proximity and teaching. The future of education lies in teaching about creativity, innovation, problem solving and understanding that we are and are going for an era of evolution.
thelma.davila@yahoo.com's curator insight, September 19, 2021 12:34 AM

The article focuses on transforming the current educational system that was implemented in the 1900's using new technology integration. Technology has the ability to use differentiation in each individual student.

I think that this article is very useful for me, someone who is going to be a teacher in the 21st century, since it suggest many ways to use the social media in my classes. It is a good method to connect with my students, because nowadays almost everyone uses technology, specially social networks and I could take advantage of this and use it in a good way. One of the suggestions that I found very interesting is the second one: Utilize a Facebook group to stream live talks and host conversations. I never thaught in the use of Facebook to communicate academic topics, or with my teachers, but the use of e-mail or skype might be boring for some students, and Facebook is tho most used social media, so me as teacher could use it to mantain contact with them, and also share some homework, or even give some classes there.

How Tech Enhances Class Performance

How Tech Enhances Class Performance | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

Ask a Tech Teacher contributor, Jane Sandwood, has interesting ideas on blending tech with tradition:

Balancing Technology With Traditional Teaching To Enhance Performance In Class

California has recently increased state investment in school technology, focusing on better broadband connections and supporting further teaching of computer science. Although there is still some debate about the benefits of increasing use of technology in schools, there appears to be plenty of evidence to show that, if used effectively, it can greatly enhance learning. It isn’t as productive on its own, and shouldn’t be used as a substitute for good teachers. However, blended learning takes the positive aspects of technology and combines them with tried and tested teaching methods. Although children are naturally becoming citizens of the digital world, for them to integrate fully and in a positive way in this new society, they still need guidance from teachers.
