Developing Course Materials for Online Adult Instruction  from JOLT - Journal of Online Learning and Teaching

Developing Course Materials for Online Adult Instruction  from JOLT - Journal of Online Learning and Teaching | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
"Many instructors that teach face-to-face use the traditional method of teaching; lecture, discussion, lab, and practice. They move the course to the online environment using the same methodology. Adult instructors do not always have formal training in developing course material and do not always understand the pedagogy of the adult learner. To use the online tools effectively, instructors must be familiar with the technology available to them as well as how to use it. This paper describes effective andragogical methods for adult instruction. It will also present the available tools and the method and reason for using them. By reviewing the research of current methods of instruction, a road map to course design will be recommended. There are effective techniques to presenting face-to-face material in the online environment that will allow the adult student to achieve a higher level of satisfaction of learning and cognitive understanding of the course material."

Innovate My School - How to develop effective edtech integration | #ModernEDU #ICT #Pedagogy | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

Technology is bringing a holistic, radical change to the new generations’ life. The learners that we currently have in schools are those who Snapchat their daily life experiences, YouTube their practices and share their voices by tweeting; they have the world at the tips of their fingers.“The fear is that digital natives will start perceiving school as non-authentic.” In minutes, they can change a thought to a video, a live stream or a podcast that they can share globally.

Technology integration as a process

As mentioned earlier, technology integration is a process that is incorporated in lesson planning. It is not about picking up an app and forcing it into teaching to make it more attractive. With pedagogy steering the process, the first step is to identify the learning objectives. Typically, the teacher will then decide on the methods and assessment tools to achieve learning objectives in a student-centered learning environment.

5 IDEAS for a pedagogy of online learning | Tony Bates

5 IDEAS for a pedagogy of online learning | Tony Bates | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

Tony Bates:

"This report provides some intriguing suggestions for designers of blended and online learning. As the report states:

The examples of initiatives discussed ….. may be used as inspiration for course teams, departments or institutions to explore innovative practices.

It is clear that universities are going to change, not just because technology is at last beginning to radically shake up how we design courses, but also because the needs of learners are changing. In the end, the value of any new online pedagogy will be judged by how well it helps meets these needs. This report provides many useful ideas and examples that should help stimulate such developments."

When using Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy (a revised take on Bloom’s devised by educator Andrew Churches), it helps to have a list of taxonomy verbs to know what actions define each stage of the taxonomy. This is useful for lesson planning, rubric making, and any other teacher-oriented task requiring planning and assessment strategies. The Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy verbs in this handy infographic apply specifically to each stage of the taxonomy, from LOTS (lower-order thinking skills) to the HOTS (higher-order thinking skills).

In my first post in this blog series I outlined the changes taking place in schools due to the adoption of online forms of education. I promised I would pose at least 3 key questions around this context. In my follow-up post, I posed a key question for teachers to answer if they wished to become successful online educators. Below is the second question I promised:
