How a Pandemic Could Change Higher Education

How a Pandemic Could Change Higher Education | Educational Leadership | Scoop.it
The COVID-19 pandemic has cast a cloud of uncertainty over higher education. Colleges around the country have shut down and moved teaching online, an
Peter Mellow's insight:
Call me cynical but in reality it won't change HigherEd. MOOCs could have positively impacted HigherEd as well but we know that once society get back to 'normal' lecturers will start talking to their students en mass again and any Social Constructivism and Connectivism used during the crisis will revert back to transmissive teaching. Some lecturers just love the sound of their own voice.

Online learning is missing one vital ingredient...according to #PeterAdams. - I don't agree with much of what he says. | Educational Leadership | Scoop.it
There is a whole lot more to teaching than the misconception of mere chalk and talk.
Peter Mellow's insight:
I don't agree with much of what Peter Adams says here. Old school thinking for old school mode. It's not the tool, it's how you use the tool. He mentions pedagogy but does not consider modern learning theories aligned to social learning in a digital world. Too teacher centric.  Saying 'In an online world, it's hard to replicate good teaching' and 'how do we capture this in zoom' shows a lack of understanding of well designed #TEL learning activities.
