Fiona felt like a hysterectomy was her only option in the end.

"I had my uterus, my cervix, my ovaries — everything — removed," she says.

It was a radical step, particularly at the age of 36.

But the pain, the rage, and the mania that came with each monthly cycle had become unbearable.

She had what's known as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or PMDD, as well as severe polycystic ovarian syndrome and chronic pain.
