Hospitals and Healthcare
There are many challenges facing hospitals and healthcare in the modern world we are living in. I've created this curation collection to save articles that help me understand what modern health in society is.  The articles here are general in nature and placed here to promote discussion. We advise that you talk with your health professional before changing any of your medication or treatment options.  Any of the online courses listed here may (or may not) be open for access or enrolment. Most are free to browse, some may charge a small fee if you wish to receive a certificate or record of learning.   Every effort is made to ensure that these links are up to date and be aware that some of these articles may be behind a 'paywall'. If you can’t get into an article, email me and I may be able to assist.  Views are my own.

Improving Remote Simulation Outcomes using the INACSL Standards of Best Practice | Hospitals and Healthcare | Scoop.it
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to pivot and look for new ways to deliver our simulation content with the expectation that our outcomes will be the same. Join us on 28 October for an engaging and informative discussion with a team of global experts who will share how to best apply the INACSL Standards of Best Practice to this emerging pedagogy.
Norma Lopez's curator insight, September 16, 2023 4:30 PM
The pandemic has acted as a catalyst for innovation and adaptation in various fields, including education. As institutions navigate the challenges of delivering simulation content in new and remote formats, it's essential to consider the evolving landscape of pedagogy.

Imitating Incidents: How Simulation Can Improve Safety Inves... : Simulation in Healthcare

orously investigate and learn from safety incidents. Key challenges include difficulties developing specialist knowledge and expertise, understanding complex incidents, coordinating collaborative action, and positively changing practice. These are the types of challenges that simulation is commonly used to address. As such, this article proposes that there are considerable opportunities to integrate simulation more deeply and systematically into routine efforts to investigate and learn from safety incidents. This article explores how this might be performed by defining five key areas where simulation could be productively integrated throughout the investigation and learning process, drawing on examples of current practice and analogous applications in healthcare and othe

The benefits to crossing this bridge are manifold. Whether it’s training in a simulated emergency room, intensive care unit (ICU), or birthing unit, or practicing critical decision making via online simulation, simulations impart incredible knowledge and experience without putting patients or healthcare workers at risk. Experiential learning is what every healthcare professional needs, but often what so few have access to.

Evaluating Healthcare Simulation

This website was created to provide healthcare simulation educators and researchers with freely available instruments we have developed for evaluating different aspects of simulation-based education (SBE). We believe that it is imperative to go well beyond satisfaction and confidence when evaluating SBE as pedagogy. It is equally important that we use instruments with established reliability and validity when evaluating outcomes.

Our work, and that of other simulation researchers, has led to five instruments that have been found useful for those working in education and clinical environments. Click on the links below or the tabs above to learn more about each instrument--why it was developed, reliability and validity, and suggestions for how to best use the instruments. We believe these instruments should be freely available and you can access them though the Obtain Instrument page.
