Tempted to buy your tot a tablet?

Tempted to buy your tot a tablet? | iPad game apps for children | Scoop.it
If there's one toy guaranteed to captivate toddlers this Christmas, it's the iPad. What's more appealing to a tot than blinking lights, fun sounds and touch screens that allow them to move things with the swipe of a tiny, sticky finger?

Welcome to iPad Game Apps for Children

I originally set up this curation collection as a way of introducing my children to curation. While they started out with some gusto, the energy soon focused on something else so now it's just me collecting related links around this topic. Thanks.

Doodle Jump

Doodle Jump - By Lima Sky - $A .99

"Doodle Jump is possibly the best iPhone game ever created."

-Touch Arcade

LM - Despite it's simple interface, Doodle Jump is one of the most addicting games on the app store currently. The aim of the game is to jump on the green platforms, which boost you up to another. Avoid spaceships, gain power ups, and try not to fall off. An amazing game that shows simple works best on IOS.

TETRIS® for iPad

PM - Like many game genre, Tetris style game apps are a plenty for the iPad. I like this EA (Electronic Arts) version in HD. It's an old game (I remember playing on a black and white 9 inch Apple Mac in 1992!) but with the added colour it just gets better.

Some visual stratagic mathmathical spatial awareness thinking is needed to fit the shapes in as best as you can to keep them from hitting the top fo the screen. Enjoy! :-)

Fruit Ninja

Fruit Ninja

Creativity

Pros: great illustration, can taste the fruit juice, good use of finger as sword, original, simple idea.

Cons: maybe create imaginary fruits to add to originality.

Interactivity

Pros: fun use of swipe at the main menu, easy for casual gamer, anyone can play.

Cons: difficult to maintain interest for a serious gamer.

Sales/downloads

25,000,000+ downloads.

Marketability

Fruit Ninja has expanded beyond the app store and that’s crucial in marketing your product. It’s hard to market Fruit Ninja because there’s no poster image for the game. The only thing to market is the fruit. That said, they are on Xbox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzsmDfKzk7M

Notes: You can’t help but feel like Zorro when playing this game. You slash the fruits in half and all that remains is perfectly sliced fruit and the trail of your ‘blade’. Arcade mode is an easy way to pass as a minute and classic mode can pass much more time than that. Fruit Ninja may also be the only game that’s truly playable for all ages. So long as you don’t swipe the black round things on the screen, you can play. Great for anyone.

Toca Band is another app from Toca Boca that your kids will love. But because it requires less creativity, and its music gets mind-numbingly repetitive, you might feel differently.

Children running up credit card bills on 'free' apps

Children running up credit card bills on 'free' apps | iPad game apps for children | Scoop.it

APPLE has been accused by the NSW state government of "taking unfair advantage" of children after reports that parents were unwittingly being billed hundreds of dollars for their children's use of "free" apps.

The Fair Trading Minister, Anthony Roberts, said consumer regulators were examining ways to address the issue but called on Apple to find a fix. He said the company's defence that parents should protect themselves or activate parental control settings was unacceptable.

Dot Game

PM - There are lots of 'dot' games available, but I have used this one for a few years now and still really like it. It works on the iPad, iPod touch and iPhone and allows two players to play a game of the old paper and pencil/pen game, 'dots'.

A nice feature is the ability to personalise the icons and include your own photos when you 'own' a square. Nice to be able to put your own face in the game!
