5 Tips for Classroom Management With Mobile Devices - Edudemic | Mobile Learning | Scoop.it
Need to navigate the highway of classroom management along with technology into your classroom? Jennifer Carey helps get you there!

When adopting technology in the classroom, one of the key concerns for teachers and administrators is classroom management.

Bronwyn Desjardins's curator insight, March 22, 2014 4:07 AM

The key to good classroom management has and always will be the "two eyes, two feet" technique. You have to be mobile and walk around the room. Off-task Behaviour occurs when teachers disengage.

Inviting public input on the UNESCO Policy Guidelines on Mobile Learning

UNESCO is developing a set of policy guidelines for mobile learning, for which it is inviting public review and input.

The unprecedented uptake of mobile devices, in particular mobile phones, in both developed and developing countries opens up new possibilities for increasing education access, equity and quality. Mobile learning, a growing field of ICT in education, has the potential to significantly impact the delivery of education. However, an enabling policy environment is needed to fully realise this potential. UNESCO's research has revealed a dearth of policies related to mobile learning. To address this gap UNESCO, in broad consultation with relevant stakeholders, will develop a set of guidelines to help national government policy makers and educators create environments that enable the safe, affordable and sustainable use of mobile technologies for education.

The Mobile Industry In Numbers

The Mobile Industry In Numbers | Mobile Learning | Scoop.it

This is the H1 2012 edition of the 100 Million Club - the watch list of the top mobile platforms and handset manufacturers.

This Infographic by VisionMobile will give you some insights into the mobile market and help put things into perspective.

Here are some of the insights:
- Smartphone sales penetration continues to accelerate, growing from nearly 30% in Q3 2011 to nearly 40% in Q2 2012
- Nearly 2 out of every 3 smartphones shipped in H1 2012 were Android devices
- Despite low device sales, the Windows platform already has over 100K available apps in Windows Marketplace
- Although Symbian is obsolete, it still has a sizable installed base – larger than bada and Windows Phone combined
- In the handset market, Apple and Samsung account for 63% of revenues and over 98% of the profits, depriving other vendors of oxygen and therefore the ability to invest in handset differentiation and marketing
- In the smartphone market, Apple and Samsung claim more than half of total shipments. Nokia is shipping more Symbian handsets than WP handsets and their smartphone share has fallen to 7%, down from 16% in H2 2011

Harnessing the True Potential of Mobile for Learning

Harnessing the True Potential of Mobile for Learning | Mobile Learning | Scoop.it

I dedicated this year to immersing myself in a thorough research on mobile learning. I have been reading heaps on the topic (books, blog posts, research articles, and so forth), following conference hashtags and backchannels, interacting with m-learning experts, and even prototyping m-learning projects.

Mobile learning allows for real immersion, experimentation, questioning, and immediate application and evaluation. All these processes help learners to make sense of information and, therefore, construct knowledge in ways that are completely different from e-learning or face-to-face instruction.

KF:  Mayra Villar makes several intersting observations but one of the most compelling is that virtually any mobile interaction is an opportunity for learning.

The 60-Second Guide To Texting In The Classroom | Edudemic

The 60-Second Guide To Texting In The Classroom | Edudemic | Mobile Learning | Scoop.it

Teachers of the 21st century are no longer just intercepting notes as they circulate the classroom. What used to manifest as a simple distraction on a slip of paper has evolved into a tiny symphony of beeps, ring tones and vibrating phones.

As technological penetration increases, cell phones are not the only things becoming smaller; cell phone users are younger, and teachers throughout the country are feeling the effects.

Inveneo : The Mobile Learning Toolkit for ICT4D Trainers | ICTDev dot org | Mobile Learning | Scoop.it

The mobile learning toolkit is the result of research into mobile phone use and user needs within the African context, however it has been developed for use in all developing contexts. It is intended as a “trainer’s toolkit” that can help deliver a wide range of training activities both inside and outside of the classroom.

The mobile learning toolkit is an open source resource that can be used in the delivery of all kinds of training in any context. It has been designed to be as inclusive as possible, with most of the methods requiring only low end devices (basic mobile phones with voice calling and SMS capability). In this way the toolkit can be used to deliver interactive learning experiences to participants right to the Base of the Pyramid (BoP).
