Nearly every week, the Warriors of 2012 are compared to the 2011 vintage that went on a run that was only ended in last year's grand final.

It places high expectations on Brian McClennan's side and fans are waiting, and hoping, for the run to start this season.

Hat-trick heroes and field goal woes

Hat-trick heroes and field goal woes | NZ Warriors Rugby League | Scoop.it

SIX GAMES, SIX MOMENTS: The Wolfman and two barnstorming rookies led their teams to victories but the NSW halves still couldn't find that winning field goal.

Warriors 32 def. Titans 14

The Moment: It was pretty clear what the game plan was for Warriors five-eighth James Maloney early in the second half with his side leading 16-14 – get the ball to Konrad Hurrell. The battleship-build rookie blew his trademark kisses twice in the opening half before making it a hat-trick five minutes after the break, fielding a long lobbed pass from Maloney to hit the afterburners 15 metres out and leave four Titans cover defenders shaking their head in disbelief at how such a simple play could still get the better of them. Possession told the story in this one – after an even share in the first 40 the Titans bumbled their way to 10 second-half errors to drag down their completions to an amateurish 40 per cent.

Griffin says Warriors can win NRL title - July 12th 2012 | NZ Warriors Rugby League | Scoop.it
Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin rates tomorrow night's rivals, the Warriors, good enough to win September's NRL grand final.

While Griffin knows his side, which boasts seven players from this year's State of Origin series, can contest for the title, he believes the Warriors have both the class and talent required to take the premiership across the Tasman for the first time.

Jarrod Morfett is bigger than most adults but the New Zealand Rugby League says the Waitara teenager is not allowed to play in senior ranks.

"I'm gutted," was all he could say to the Taranaki Daily News yesterday.

Seventeen-year-old Morfett, who weighs 97 kilograms and stands 1.93metres (6ft 4in), has turned out four times this season for the Waitara Bears premier team in the Western Alliance competition.

PM: ----->   Get this guy into the Junior Warriors!!!!!!!!

Titans 14 Warriors 32...

It wasn't always pretty but NRL wins don't have to be. This was a vital two points banked and will see the Warriors return to the top eight. The Titans, missing some of their top players, were competitive in the first period but faded badly after halftime. After 22 minutes the Warriors trailed 14-4 before scoring 28 unanswered points across the final hour.
