Class of 2024: It’s been a year like never before. How did you write about it?

A strong application essay can boost a student's chances of being admitted to a college. In this guide, admissions experts offer advice on picking a college essay topic as well as navigating the writing and editing processes.

Each year, we ask high school seniors to submit college application essays they’ve written about work, money, social class and related topics. Here are five that moved us.

The admissions process is a maddening mishmash of competing objectives, and an attempt to measure the unmeasurable: you. No, it isn’t fair, and likely never will be.

Intense admissions scramble leads some well-off families to hire pricey essay consultants.

Given such passion, why do high schools almost never encourage big writing projects?

Have you ever re-visited work you've done in the past and been mortified by the number of, sometimes quite glaring, errors you notice that you were oblivious to when you proofread that work originally?

In this video I explain why proofreading can be so hit and miss and what you can do about it.
