For those who choose to live in student housing, rents for a single room can often be more than the price of a whole apartment, with some international students saying the prices are "insane".

The housing shortage has been especially brutal for overseas students. But some find another place to call home.

Off-campus complexes are getting larger, with some being home to more than 1,500 students, and being built on prime parcels of land as close to campus as possible.
