Disabled children of New Zealander parents denied access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme
Disabled children born in Australia are being denied access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) because their parents are New Zealand citizens, despite the fact that their parents are paying taxes that support the scheme. Children born in Australia to New Zealand parents on special visas cannot access the NDIS because of government rules, and cannot become citizens until they turn 10.

There has been little recognition of how western governments furthered separation of families with disabled children, through immigration policies that ignored postwar humanitarian ideals.
