Trans Tasman Migration

The pros and cons of moving to Australia from New Zealand are many and varied. While wages are usually higher, NZ citizens do not receive any government assistance apart from Medicare. This has implications for schooling, University study, health care, unemployment and retirement. The compulsery super scheme is a lot better than the Kiwisaver scheme, but does this balance out many of the negatives?

I would suggest caution, and doing a lot of research online before you make the jump. Personally I would not risk coming over here unless you have a guaranteed job to walk into. Just turning up and then looking for a job is very risky. If you have a skill, trade, professional qualification, things may be a little easier.

Good luck, but take care and read many of these articles to get some more background on the risk/benefits of migration.

Where's the choice, bro: Kiwis in Australia get a raw deal

Where's the choice, bro: Kiwis in Australia get a raw deal | Trans Tasman Migration | Scoop.it
Back in 1901, it was said there were 1200 reasons for New Zealand not to join the Commonwealth of Australia, as that’s how many miles of ocean separate the two countries.
Peter Mellow's insight:

Professor Grant Duncan, of Massey University's School of People, Environment and Planning, wrote in the Australian academic website The Conversation that expat Kiwis faced social exclusion.

"On the ancient principle of 'no taxation without representation' it is unfair that - as taxpayers in Australia - they have no right to vote on the government they pay for, and no political clout to influence Australian social policy," he wrote.

54,000 refugees, no questions asked

54,000 refugees, no questions asked | Trans Tasman Migration | Scoop.it

AUSTRALIA is facing a flood of economic refugees. But the big numbers aren't from the north, they are from the across the Tasman where Statistics New Zealand yesterday announced the biggest exodus to Australia on record.

An extraordinary 53,900 New Zealanders moved to Australia in the year to July - around the entire population of New Plymouth, New Zealand's 11th biggest city.

The number dwarfs the 9607 asylum seekers who arrived in Australian waters by boat.
