PSFK Labs:  "From spoken word to moving pictures new technologies have become the springboard for producers and audiences to create and share their personal tales."

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, June 27, 2014 2:58 AM

Good stories are like springboards that set off the reader’s imagination into a realm of co-creation, where the the story evokes personal tales from the reader. These intertwine and lead to richer, memorable story experiences.

Three areas we should take into consideration when approaching cross media projects this year:

1. Companies need stories too

2. Let’s help people scratch their own itches

3. Think beyond the screen, to real-life interaction

The Future of Video Game Storytelling

The Digital Rocking Chair's insight:

Lucy O'Brien:  "The writers behind The Last of Us, Gone Home, Tomb Raider and The Stanley Parable give us their thoughts on where storytelling in video games is headed next."

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, January 13, 2014 3:05 AM

There is an old but still pertinent argument that storytelling in video games is the last great bastion for the medium to conquer. That game developers working in the 'mainstream space' have traditionally struggled to utilise video games as a storytelling medium, struggled to harmonise play and Hollywood-like narratives, and struggled to inject real meaning into their games without rendering the player a frustrated passive participant.

Yes. When the author says "Every location or object will contain massive amounts of recorded information ready for playback." I agree totally. We are NOT talking about far-future: we have the technologies to do it now.

Augmented Reality Versus Virtual Reality: The Battle Is Real

Augmented Reality Versus Virtual Reality: The Battle Is Real | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
The Digital Rocking Chair's insight:

Ricardo Diaz:  "Although virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have existed in some form for decades, only recently have they garnered mainstream attention" ...

Vivalist's curator insight, January 7, 2016 4:56 AM

The article explore the differences between the two "mediums". Stressing the fact that "VR’s biggest strength is also its greatest weakness. The immersive nature of VR hinders users from interacting with their surroundings. [It]  has already started to revolutionize the way we watch content, but will never be the technology we turn to in our everyday lives."

Whereas AR brings layers of info on our daily lives, the tech has not delivered yet due to the issue of visualization. But "Microsoft is working on HoloLens AR headset glasses. Developer kits are scheduled to hit the market in early 2016. Google invested in a company called Magic Leap, whose technology beams lasers into the viewer’s iris to activate AR. That future will become a reality in another year’s time."

The Digital Rocking Chair's insight:

Simon Parkin:  'Milk wants to create art that can impact millions simultaneously, so he’s turned to virtual reality, which is set to make a triumphant return in the form of the Oculus Rift, VR goggles built from smart-phone technology. He is unequivocal about it: VR is what will succeed film as the “future of storytelling” and the “next great canvas for human expression”.'

Vivalist's curator insight, July 4, 2014 6:01 AM

Chris Milk is a true 21st century artist. The fact that he learned to code at an early age is very relevant. His collaboration is Aaron Koblin are mind blowing and he can also truly shine on his own - as the Lincoln Hello Again project shows it

This is a bit different. But, culturally it is necessary to pursue as many avenues for artistic development that includes the need to live.

The Internet provides a low cost entry for all forms of artistic endeavours at an affordable entry. The problem is getting noticed.

In other words, while the fundamentals of good storytelling remain the same, technology is changing how stories can be told. But what does that mean exactly? Click for more.

Interactive Storytelling and the Future Agency

Interactive Storytelling and the Future Agency | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
Storytelling has been at the forefront of modern life. Whether it is TV, cinema, books, radio or YouTube, we all have access to consume stories that others have created and indeed, create our own for the Internet audience ...

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's curator insight, December 17, 2012 6:29 AM

The Internet has given storytelling a new lease of life. The web series has given life to a new breed of film production, social networks have given us the ability to freely interact online with others, whether they are people, or companies and augmented reality has given us the chance to interact with characters and objects.
