What's the Future of Storytelling? 'Unknown Spring' Provides Some Answers | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
The Digital Rocking Chair's insight:

Paula Bernstein:  "In March 2011 Jake Price, a freelance producer for the BBC, journeyed to Tohoku, Japan to document the devastation left in the wake of the Pacific tsunami. The result of his trip is evident in his powerful and beautiful immersive web documentary, "Unknown Spring," which was awarded the World Press Photo Multimedia Awards."

I like this piece because it pulls together a number of areas that interest me.

First, this is someone doing something without a big budget and receiving international acclaim. That someone is young. It is relevant to the environment. And it includes my thoughts on new opportunities for youth for employment alternatives.

Hollow is a digital documentary that lives through its protagonists and it is full of good ideas - even though the design and UX are not as tight as, let's say Pinepoint.

It includes some nice features and in this article, the creators come back on the production production, both from a writing and designing standpoints. Good read

How the Indie Audio Community Is Transforming Storytelling

How the Indie Audio Community Is Transforming Storytelling | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it

Jesse Shapins: "[...] documentary is a relatively fluid genre that operates in so many different contexts at such varied lengths (broadcast news magazines, long-form series, live performance, "listening rooms," etc.), the people engaged in it are more open to redefining and experimenting with its boundaries than those who are entrenched in more established modes of documentary (e.g., classic voiceover-driven video docs)."

Elisabeth Greenbaum Kasson:  "While Baby Boomers and older Gen Xers may feel everything from dismissive to perplexed or even paralyzed by the shift to digital storytelling, the upcoming generations fear none of that. To get information delivered via virtual reality, gaming or interactive, as well as film, television, video, radio and photography—or any combination thereof—makes complete sense to them, and it's indicative of how documentary content will be delivered in the near future."
